Eugene Braunwald, M.D., preeminent researcher, physician, and educator, has truly improved health care for people around the world. According to Joseph B. Martin, M.D., former Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, Dr. Braunwald’s “bench to bedside approach to the limitations of myocardial infarct size is perhaps the greatest single example of an individual whose scientific research has led to dramatic translational benefits to improve patient care.” Dr. Braunwald’s direct contributions as a clinical investigator have improved the prognosis and quality of life for patients with cardiovascular disease. In addition, through his role as the standard-bearer for academic excellence, his trainees augment and multiply his positive influence on biomedical research, education, and patient care.
